We had some ridiculously warm weather in Vermont recently.  Temperatures were in the 70s and 80s for about a week straight and there was plenty of sunshine to put us all in good spirits.  Well, most of us enjoyed the weather – a few members of the farm found the warm air and sunshine a little oppressive.  Our boar Hugo was so hot he could hardly get up to eat!

The births are really starting to pick up on the farm; more than 20 goats are overdue and could have their kids at any moment.  With the little down-time we have left, we’re trying to check off as many things from our to-do list as possible.  One of our major projects was to finish a new house for our pigs, and William the one-eyed pirate cat stopped by to make sure we did a satisfactory job.

It’s been almost a month since we built the pig house, and with the exception of a couple wimpy little rains, we really haven’t felt the gratification of seeing the shelter shelter. But last night it finally happened! A full day of rain followed by several inches of snow last night. It took a lot of motivation to rouse the porks for a photoshoot. Grunty, groany, and indignant, they once again nailed me with one squinting eye.

Alex built the Hereford pigs a chalet to hunker down in for the winter. They quickly christened it with a good scratch.  Photos were taken within minutes of the chalet’s arrival in their pasture (note the muddy patches next to the door).

On the whiteboard in our milking parlor I have a list of things I want to blog about. The idea is that I will take some photos, go home after evening milking, and do a blog post. I am, however, very ineffective at achieving this! Enjoy some photos from blog posts never-to-be!

These two pink piglets are the newest addition to the farm.  They moved into the woodshed two weeks ago while we put up fencing for them in a rocky hilltop pasture.  At long last we released them into the wilds only to have them escape their fencing hours later, causing a minor traffic jam.  They enjoy napping in the buckthorn thicket, scrubbing against the telephone pole, and rooting about in the sod.
